Have Less Jobs…More Positions
This has been a philosophy of Anthem for many moons. Since its inception, we have always focused on providing truly rewarding experiences to our team. Our team is family. You hear a lot of companies throw around these words, and they’re just semantics to them, with very little substance. It’s disingenuous, and unfortunately, at the end of the day, their people are just a number—just another employee. A lot of places treat their people as the next disposable thing. That is certainly not the case here.
I advocate for this for many reasons. There is the self-serving need of an organization to cultivate strong current and alumni team members who go on to become industry leaders. But more importantly, it’s about providing your people—your forever people—with a truly personal and professional journey that is rewarding. It’s about helping them grow in all areas of their career and their life.
In order to help people learn, experience and grow, you need to treat them not just as valued team members, but as family members. That becomes more difficult as companies grow larger, and not every individual is looking for a long-term or forever position.
However, businesses can save significant resources in hiring and training by avoiding turnover. Continuity of skills and experience within your team is invaluable. Beyond that, there is the reputation that comes from training great professionals. While that may not hold the same value for everyone, at Anthem our culture is strong. It fosters collaboration. It values people—sometimes even people over profit. It seeks out and attracts like-minded individuals who are looking for a position, not just a job.
A job is something you do to exchange time for money. For most of us, there has been a point in our lives when we have done this. Oftentimes, it serves a purpose. However, a position is designed to give you a career. A career not only takes care of you financially, but compensates you in ways no job ever will. It values you. It educates you. It challenges you. It pushes you out of your comfort zone and expands your interests and abilities, making you a more well-rounded and satisfied person—in as many areas as you allow it to.
The Anthem Way and the Anthem culture seek out individuals who are interested in finding a home they can contribute to—one that will give everything back to them in return.
We help our people pursue continuing education, personal interests and diverse professional avenues. We challenge. We love. We support.
And that’s why, when it comes to The Anthem Group and all of our projects, companies, and people—we don’t have many jobs, if any.
We have positions.
We are not just employees or staff or team.
