When You See My Face I Hope it Gives You Hell

While it’s a great song, it’s not necessarily one I listen to on repeat. I enjoy not just the music, but how the lyrics can be interpreted. There are some people who simply won’t support your vision — no matter who they are to you. Whether a friend, partner, family member — anyone.

There are different interpretations of the song, and the musicians have their own meaning behind it, but let’s use one of the literal lyrics to drive the point home: “you’re still probably workin’, at a nine to five pace, I wonder how bad that tastes.”

If that lifestyle is for you, that’s great. I’ve always said there are many roads to happiness. But for others — and I firmly place myself in that group — we want something different. We need to be surrounded by people who appreciate striving for something outside the “norm.” The long hours of practice or rehearsal. The seemingly endless hours studying, researching, or working. While our end goals may vary, the journey often has parallels.

If you want something unique out of life, don’t settle — and don’t let anyone take away from your happiness or your vision. If they do not support you, move on.
